Bryan Fischer stated, in an episode of Focal Point, “We have an obligation to obey God rather than man” and insisted he was defending Lisa Miller concerning a child custody case, in which the court ordered her to return the child.
He insisted the former partner of Miller has no rights to the child since there is no biological relationship, but the judge stated differently and gave the other mother visitation rights. Since the other mother, according to Fischer, is not biological, no one kidnapped anyone’s child. Miller simply fled to another country to keep their daughter away from her former partner, who Fischer alleges was abused by Miller’s former partner.
Previously to the break up, the couple planned children via in-vitro fertilization and the daughter was the result of this planned pregnancy, in which Miller conceived and gave birth.
After that, Miller conceived again, miscarried, and subsequently went into a depression, which allegedly led her to a “spiral of guilt and recrimination” and ultimately to Evangelical Fundamentalism. After her conversion to Evangelical Fundamentalism, in Jerry Falwell’s church, Miller decided that her homosexual relationship was wrong and broke up with her partner.
Some time after the break up, a judge ordered shared custody and visitation rights to her partner. Later, Miller accuses her ex-partner of abusing her daughter, which Fischer refers to in his diatribe and tweets.
Miller claims Isabella was traumatized by the visits. Since she and her daughter had become part of a fundamentalist, homophobic religious community, Isabella probably came to see Jenkins as an irredeemable sinner.
Fischer stated that he stands by everything he said in his tweets and claims there is an “Underground Railroad to protect innocent children from same-sex households” as he uses a recent professionally criticized, bias and inaccurate study, as well as Robert Oscar Lopez’s story, who blames his two mothers for his social problems.
I stand by everything I have said in these Tweets. There is an Underground Railroad, and we need one for women like Lisa Miller. We need an Underground Railroad to protect innocent children from same-sex households in these kinds of circumstances.
Fischer also tweeted, “Why we need an Underground Railroad to deliver innocent children from same-sex households”, linking to the Robert Oscar Lopez story. In another tweet, he said, “Head of Underground Railroad to deliver innocent children from same-sex households goes on trial”, referring to a Mennonite minister on trial for assisting in the kidnapping the young girl in defiance of the judge’s visitation order.
In his video, Fischer stated that after the judge ordered visitations with the other mother, Miller had not choice but to flee with her daughter to another country, thus supporting kidnapping children from gay parents. Yet Fischer accuses the judge of kidnapping the child and not the mother.
