HHS mandate giving women access to free birth control is reigning terror down on America, just like Pearl Harbor and 9-11, Congressman says

Rep. Mike Kelly, a Pennsylvania Republican, told supporters yesterday that August 1 will go down as a terrible day in American history.

"I know in your mind you can think of the times that America was attacked.  One is December 7, that's Pearl Harbor Day.  The other day is September 11, and that's the day the terrorists attacked.  I want you to remember August 1, 2012, the attack on our religious freedom.  That is a date that will live in infamy along with those other dates."

August 1 marked the day that women with health insurance will get free birth control access under the Affordable Care Act.

"Access to birth control is what Congressman Mike Kelly says is reigning terror down on America," NBC commentator Rachel Maddow explained yesterday.

Numerous other Republicans decried access to birth control yesterday, such as Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey, Rep. Ann Marie Buerkle of New York, Rep. Billy Long of Missouri, and Rep. Steve Pearce of New Mexico.  "In New Mexico, we're proud to stand arm and arm with the Catholics and say, 'We'll fight with you to the death,'" Pearce declared.

    What the hell does contraception have to do with Pearl Harbor? IMO, this is just more insane desire to dominate and control women, as well as their health. Aug 1, when women receive "free" contraception (they still have to pay for their health insurance) is a milestone in progress for the nation as a whole, not terror. It's a good thing that will save and improve lives, not end or destroy them, because it also treats some ailments women have and prevents life-threatening pregnacies. August 1 is a wonderful day and I only wish we had it years ago.

    Yes, that life size contraceptive package is a bit creepy.

      Primarily religion is a way for one set of people, the clergy, to gain control of another set of people, the laity. Neither group may recognize this explicitly because both are wrapped up in the mysteries of faith. The paradigm is simple. The laity has standing in the church only to the extent that they accept the Clergy's doctrine and obey its rules. Standing gives you the gravitas to question doctrine and rules, but doing so will destroy your standing rendering your questions mute. If you add that obedience leads to heaven and disobedience to hell, then the church can control (and oppress) people quite efficiently.
