Stunning pictures of Mars landscape released by NASA

NASA has combined 800 images of Mars taken by the exploration rover into a never-before-seen, high resolution panoramic view of the Martian surface.  According to NASA, the images are "about the next best thing to being there."

The images show the terrain photographed when the rover was stationary for four months during the most recent Martian winter.

In one of the images, viewers can see a deep crater, with the shadow of the rover in the foreground.
