Religious News Verses: Pot and Health Care

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled yesterday that the state's interest in banning marijuana outweighed beliefs of people who contend they should be able to use it as a religious sacrament wherever they wish, the Eastern Arizona Courier reports.   The defendant, Danny Ray Hardesty, was accused of smoking pot while driving.   He claimed that he was a member of the Church of Cognizance, which "granted him [the right] to use cannabis wherever because it is the church's sacrament. He equated it to the Catholic communion of a sip of sacramental wine."

President Obama gave his speech to Congress last night about health care reform, a subject that has had the religious and conservative right bristling. Media Matters asks, "How is opposition to health care a Christian value?"

Here's a clip from the God Scam that brilliantly points out the hypocrisy and double standards.
