Israeli woman loves 550 cats more than she loves her husband

There is a love for cats and then there is a hoarding obsession of cats.  It would seem a woman in Israel prefers 550 cats to human companionship, as well as potentially risking the health and welfare of too many damn cats, as well as her own, due to a financial responsibility of all those cats.

In southern Israel, a man went to the rabbinical court to seek a divorce from his wife due to her 550 cats, which the woman refused to part with any of them.  He claimed that life with his wife became unbearable when she took in 550 cats.

He complained to the courts, in Beersheba, that cats blocked his entrance to the bathroom, prevented him from cooking his meals, and stole his food when he sat down to eat.  He also complained that the cats refused to sleep on the floor, preferring the comfortable bed, so he was unable to sleep at night.  All those cats were in the way of his life and marriage, making it impossible for the couple to have any intimacy.

The courts requested the couple reconcile their marriage and the couple said they did try, but the wife refused to give up any of her cats.  She allegedly stated that she rather part with her husband than part with any of her cats.

The couple went their separate ways, while the wife kept all her cats.  I guess she preferred Bastet over Yahweh, but the poor man will have nightmares about cats for the rest of his life, as well as refuse to date a woman who cares for even one cat.

    Oh, my.  And if they are not fixed, she'll soon have thousands of them.  If a bunch of these are in the house, there will probably be permanent damage from all the urine since it's unlikely that all of them will be using a box.

      This is true.  I'm concerned about her and the cats, because that's not healthy for any of them.  I'm hoping the Israeli equivalent of the ASPCA, the Israeli Humane Society, or some sort of animal protection organization steps in and helps both the woman and the cats.  I include the woman because she needs both psychological counseling and counseling/education on caring for furry family members.  Of course, I wouldn't want all her cats taken from her.  I would like to see her keep up to two or three of them, with education on caring for them, for her own psychological well-being.  I don't believe this is an all or nothing situation and it shouldn't be.

      As far as I can tell, it's not a joke.  One of the links I used was Times Israel.  I wish they said how it happened, but I couldn't find anything that stated.  I'm hoping, now that the husband said something, someone intervenes and helps this woman. It's not just animal welfare people who need to intervene and help, but also she needs psychological help.
