Egyptian Tourism Industry Hard Hit By Ramadan

The Muslim fasting month of Ramadan comes in the middle of the holiday season in Egypt this year, which has left hotels and tourists destinations empty. Coupled with the fact that this sector has already been badly hit by the global economic downturn, the effect is an economic disaster.

The people who suffer the most are the workers in the service sector.

Typically, August is Egypt's peak month for tourism. Hotel occupancy rates are down to less than 2% of normal levels.
