Lauren Anderson Youngblood, Communications Manager of the Secular Coalition for America, and journalist and author Al Stefanelli, are our guests for the God Discussion show this week. The show will be a mix of pre-recorded and live segments, with our interview with Lauren in the first hour, followed by a call-in segment, and then a pre-recorded discussion with Al Stefanelli. Al co-hosted the segment with Lauren.
On March 23, 2012 — the day before the Reason Rally — the Secular Coalition organized a lobby day where hundreds of secularists met with members of Congress at the nation's capital. Lauren shares the highlights of that event, and also gives insight about the selection of Edwina Rogers as the Secular Coalition for America's new executive director. Edwina is a seasoned Republican lobbyist who had contributed campaign donations to the Rick Perry presidential campaign, igniting a firestorm of controversy in the freethought community. In the pre-recorded segment, Lauren offers her insight about the selection and why atheists and secularists need not be worried.
The Secular Coalition for America is the most powerful lobbyist organization in Washington D.C. that represents secular interests. Its 11 member organizations include: American Atheists; The American Ethical Union; American Humanist Association; Atheist Alliance of America; Camp Quest; The Council for Secular Humanism; HUUmanists, the Association of Unitarian Universalist Humanists; The Institute for Humanist Studies; Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers; The Secular Student Alliance; and The Society for Humanistic Judaism.
