Marc Angenent, a pastor for 23 years, wants you to believe that sex is not only ordained by God, but that it's also fun. He's got a website called "Liefdestuin," or "Love Garden," that offers advice and articles about sex, and possibly the best part—sex toys for sale. There is a wide variety of dildoes, vibrators, erection rings, and prostate stimulators, among other things tastefully listed, but not pornographically displayed on the site available for purchase. But Angenent doesn't want Christians to see it as porn; in his years of counseling married Christian couples, he found:
The couples complained that they were no longer having sex and when they did, it was ‘boring’. Marc Angenent counselled them to try new things and to allow lust into the equation.
“They weren't really satisfied until they started to act out all of their lustful desires”, he reportedly said.
The website which promises safe browsing pornographic or offensive pictures and language sells items such as dildos, prostate stimulators, erection rings and vibrators.
To Marc Angenent its not about the money but what he calls ‘a private crusade against lust phobia’.
In addition to providing a place for people to purchase masturbation materials without running into ads that might make them want to masturbate, Liefdestuin offers basic sex education information and cites Bible verses that prove God was OK with people quelling the fires in their burning bushes.
“Particularly the Old Testament is full of erotic stories. Within a spiritual context, or course, but eroticism is very present.”
Indeed. Here are just a few examples of erotic passages in the Song of Solomon:
“He thrust his hand into the opening, and my inmost being yearned for him. I arose to open to my beloved, and my hands dripped with myrrh, my fingers with liquid myrrh, upon the handles of the bolt.” 5:4
“Like an apple tree among the trees of the forest is my lover among the young men. I delight to sit in his shade, and his fruit is sweet to my taste.” 2:3
“How much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance of your perfume than any spice.” Song 4:10
“Awake, O north wind, and come, O south wind! Blow upon my garden that its fragrance may be wafted abroad. Let my beloved come to his garden, and eat its choicest fruits.” 4:16
