Rick Santorum wins Louisiana primary for GOP presidential nomination

Santorum wins LouisianaPolls have closed in Louisiana and MSNBC projects that Rick Santorum has won with a significant margin.  Analysts expected Santorum to win, but add that he would need to pull off some surprises to defeat Mitt Romney nationwide.

Politico reports that Santorum captured 49.1 percent of the vote in Louisiana.

The Republican establishment is coalescing around Romney, using reserved tones.

Santorum's campaign says that tonight's win will help build momentum for his fight to win the Republican nomination.  The campaign has put out an ad called "Obamaville" that has a horror show, post-apocalyptic feel to it.  His campaign spokesperson told MSNBC's panel that the ad accurately reflects how jobless people in America feel, and that a Santorum win of the GOP nomination will bring excitement to the 2012 general election.
