The Religious Reich’s Worst Nightmare: Women Rebelling Against Them

Religion is nothing more than mind slavery.  It seeks to control and dominate others, especially women in modern society, and obviously, the Religious Reich intends to turn our country into a Theocracy, starting with enslaving all women under their religious laws, found in the Bible.  During this process, they will deny women birth control and abortion services, even if it means their lives.  The Religious Reich does not care that these things are an essential part of women’s health care.  All they care about is dominating and controlling women, making sure they stay barefoot, pregnant, and chained to the home, like a slave.

As I read and write about the War on Women, I often think the most logical answer to the problem, if the Religious Reich, “God’s Own Party”, were to succeed in passing anti-abortion laws, deny access to birth control, and prevent them from making their own health care decisions, is to deny men sex.  Religion seems to not only dominate women, but also enslave them, making them subhuman people, as Theocracy controls them.  The best way for slaves to fight slavery, is to rise up and refuse to obey their masters.

Valerie Tarico points out in her article that in the Bible, “women are property”, yet the Religious Reich places this idea on their god, not on themselves, when in fact, they are the ones attempting to enslave women. They intend to treat women like property, including and especially in women’s health care matters, selling them out to rapists by forcing them to carry their rapist’s child, as they abide by Exodus 20:17, which is part of their “10 Commandments”, as well as Deuteronomy 22:28-29, in the case of rape. Thus, enslaving women is part of their religious laws and because God ordains it, the Religious Reich must make it happen.

While the Religious Reich does not necessarily go down the list concerning Biblical rules about women, their intention is to make women sub-human and slaves to their husbands, the Church, and the government. Women have no say in the matter, because, according to the Bible, “they are not to be heard” (1 Corinthians 14:34), just ignored and pushed aside, like cattle, which “God’s Own Republican Party” does well. A prime example was during the hearings on birth control coverage, where Republicans denied women a say in the matter, leaving the Democrats to their own hearing, which did not count.

The submission of women, which Tarico lists, is a big thing among the Religious Reich and just like a slave, they expect women to submit to their every will, because God created women for men to rule over and dominate (1 Corinthians 11:2-10). Under religious law, women must submit to their husbands and bare children until they die from childbirth, maybe even taking the child with them when they die (Genesis 3:16). Above all, their personhood and individuality does not matter, because women are baby factories, forced into servitude to their husbands and their vile god.

A woman’s life, life in general, means nothing to the Religious Reich, unless it is a fetus and even then, because they ignore and deny women health care, even the fetus really has no meaning to them. It is nothing more than slavery and I have often thought, maybe it is time women rebelled and refuse to be sexual creatures, at least rebelled against the Religious Reich’s definition of the submissive sex slave a woman must be. Under their Biblical law, women are not entitled to freedom of any sort and it would seem, they are not entitled to live under the Religious Reich’s rule, thus fighting back, by any means, short of violence, is necessary.

Of course, there are problems with this idea of denying men sex, but what if all women, except for maybe those the Religious Reich dominates and enslaves completely, denied men sex if the Religious Reich passed these laws? Theoretically, while women could not get around the Reich’s denial of health care, women could rebel, finding ways to fulfill their sexual needs without becoming pregnant. History has shown many an oppressed group of people, rebelling against oppressive laws, in an effort to regain their rights as human beings. If it were possible, it would be interesting to see what would happen if women began dropping men like rocks or at least refused to obey their husbands.

Women, not completely enslaved by the Religious Reich, could chose to ignore the Church’s teachings about submission, masturbation, and/or homosexuality, in an effort to fulfill their own needs. Such a world where women started to wake up to the Patriarchal domination and slavery of religion by refusing to put up with male domination and oppression, under the guise of religion, could be very interesting.

This sounds almost as though it is a sinister plot against men, but what if women chose to live their lives, by creating the Religious Reich’s worst nightmare, a rebellion or uprising of women, in retaliation for overturning women’s rights, in favour of religious laws?

In this Religious Reich nightmare, because they denied women access to birth control, abortion, and women’s health care, making the United States a Theocracy, women rebelled. Suddenly, men found they were on their own in finding sexual gratification, because women decided to find other means to fulfill their basic primitive need for sexual gratification or were too sick to participate in love-making.

Almost overnight, there was an increase in the sales of vibrators and dildos, as women dropped men like a rocks. This increase in sales of personal satisfaction items triggers a panic in the Religious Reich, in which they started screaming more about the sinful evils of masturbation, but their screams fall on deaf ears, as women rejected religious laws.

At best, women might tell the Religious Reich, “At least we aren’t having sex out-of-wedlock and getting pregnant” or “I refuse to be barefoot and pregnant.” At worst, she might say, “Suck it Jesus! I want my birth control or no sex tonight, besides, I’m in too much pain to even think about sex” or “I refuse Patriarchal domination and I intend to fight it.”

Of course, this newfound freedom of saying no to sex could bring about another group of women, who, because of religion, tried to follow the status quo and in a sense were closet homosexuals, denying themselves. They, like the first group, had a strong need to fulfill their primitive need for sex, but a vibrator was not enough. They wanted more and found that they enjoyed the companionship of a woman more than they did a man’s, as they fulfilled their need for physical contact without men, as well as discovered who they really are.

Eventually, they came out as being gay, triggering another rash of panic in the Religious Reich, as they lose more control of women and ministers start preaching about the supposed increase in homosexuality. The only difference in the Religious Reich’s rants about homosexuality is that they changed Sodom and Gomorrah to Sodomette and Gomorrahatta, as this group of women begin to find themselves and stop trying to follow religious dogma.

However, this second group of women is happier now that they stopped denying who they are, because of religious dogma. Again, they ignore the Religious Reich’s dogma and live their lives better than they did under the control of the Patriarch.

A third group could refuse to submit to their controlling husbands, by leaving them and maybe even filing for divorce. The women, who were religious, yet daring to defy the Religious Reich, leave their husbands, as their means of rebelling against the enslavement of women. If their husbands were ministers, their husband’s would preach about all these so-called “sins”, masturbation, homosexuality, divorce, and the refusal to accept the woman’s place in society, as ordained by God, while they bent over in pain from blue balls, unless the woman forgets to take her children with her. Then her husband is even sicker with control, domination, and power than once thought. Thus, for the sake and safety of her children, especially if they are girls, who are in just as much in danger of this mind slavery, she must not leave her children behind.

Of course, women married for 20 years to decent husbands, might stay, and not even worry about sex, because it gets old after a while. Sex is not as cracked up as some people say it is, but the hormones that drive the young do not drive older people as much, unless they are males leading the Religious Reich. Thus, this group of women might not need to do much, in which to rebel against the Religious Reich. This group of women could find it possible to avoid sex and still enjoy their husband’s company, without any serious problems with this rebellion against the Religious Reich.

Still others of almost any age or religion, with compassionate husbands, may stay as they give their husband’s an honest and sincere form of “not tonight, dear”, due to the pain and suffering caused by the denial of birth control. Their loving husband’s may get involved in the “no sex” rebellion because they refuse to put their wives through the pain of intercourse caused by endometriosis. Some caring and compassionate husbands may watch their wives suffer through ovarian cysts and feel compelled to fight back also. Thus, women would not be alone in their fight against the Patriarch, because some men would also join their cause.

All the women, who started rebelling against the Patriarch and freed themselves from the chains of religious slavery, became happier. The men, who denounced religion, started demanding the women get their rights back and eventually women gained all their rights back, plus, the right to keep the Patriarch out of their doctor’s visits, so they could make their own health care choices. Some religious men might begin to rethink the power of women and their need to have control over their own bodies. Eventually, they also released the women they enslaved with Patriarchal religious dogma.

In the end, some women, who took contraception to control painful periods, ovarian cysts, and endometriosis, started to feel better after they received their prescription again, this time covered by their insurance. Other women found their relationships with their partners improve because they once again had control over their own lives and bodies. The list of improvements with Women’s Health Care, which includes contraception and abortion, are numerous.

As a side bonus from women rebelling against a Theocracy, at least in this scenario, gays gained marriage equality, receiving the same rights as hetero couples. They became able to adopt or acquire artificial insemination, so they could have a child.

Of course, this is all a “What if” fantasy with a happy ending, but again, if women cannot legally have access to birth control, abortion, and other women’s health care issues, saying no to sex and resorting vibrators, unless intercourse is too painful, is one option. Women will find ways to avoid pregnancy or even terminate a pregnancy, but they all want a safe and affordable means of acquiring it. Sexuality is part of being human or any other species for that matter, but for humans, pain, suffering, and/or pregnancy, which could lead to death, should not be a necessary consequence of sex.

We spay and neuter our pets, without thinking that “every sperm is sacred” for them, but yet, while a human fetus looks like any other animal fetus on the face of the earth, the Religious Reich thinks human fetuses are more special than any other animal fetus. This is pure ignorance of cell division and human development. Human fetuses are no more or less special than other animal fetuses, but it is dehumanizing and degrading to deny women proper medical care, which includes birth control and sometimes abortion.

Homosexuality has the bonus of not conceiving an unwanted child, but it is not a choice. No one, including the Church, should deny gay couples adoption or artificial insemination, if they decide they want a child. No one should deny gay couples the right to marry, just because they are not “one man and one woman”, either. This is also a form of oppressive control of others and a denial of human sexuality.

In reality, if all women did successfully deny men sex, then rapes would probably increase and the Religious Reich would blame the women, forcing them to give birth to their rapist’s baby. Their only hope is that the probe up their vagina, to do an ultra sound, raping them again, causes a spontaneous abortion (miscarriage), but ditching men is also an option for some women, if the Religious Reich succeeded in creating a Theocracy. In reality, such a scenario would be a true battle of the sexes, if not even all out war, especially among single women, divorced women, and gay women. The last group, who stayed with their husbands during such a rebellion, could potentially find the war less problematic.

Not only that, women do not find their sexuality by denying men sex and they do not just suddenly decide they are gay. Lastly, while some women leave the Church and announce they are gay, it is not something they suddenly choose either. They do not choose it, anymore than one chooses to be heterosexual or even asexual.

However, the fantasy of women rebelling against the Religious Reich is nice in regards to fighting a potential Theocracy, which enslaves women. Sadly, we have seen this attempt to enslave women through Theocracy for several months, if not years now.

Let us hope no state, or even the U.S. government, succeeds in passing such laws, concerning women, which only serve as Theocracy that enslaves women. Then women will have no need to rebel through any means they can creative conjure in their minds and enact. However, for true freedom, everyone needs the ability to either choose or earn their roles, not have roles forced upon them based on their gender or skin colour, which are the two main means of oppressing people, especially under religious laws.

All women, white, black, Latino, American Indian, gay, straight, transgender, Christian, Muslim, humanist/atheist/freethinker, as well as the men who care about them, need to stand up and fight the Theocracy the Religious Reich wants to force on us. We are all one and together our voices outnumber theirs greatly, so we can win this fight against religious oppression, so that we do not become a Theocracy that enslaves women.

The religious have no room to scream about oppression, especially when they are doing the oppression. No one is taking away their religious beliefs, but they cannot impose their religious laws on anyone through our government nor can they enslave anyone with their dogmas.

I am reminded of a quote from Martin Luther:  Women should remain at home, sit still, keep house and bear and bring up children. If a woman grows weary and, at last, dies from childbearing, it matters not. Let her die from bearing; she is there to do it.

    • http://www.houseofbetazed.com Mriana

Yes, that quote was in the "Slave Sermon" too.

  • http://www.awaypoint.wordpress.com Valerie Tarico

One of Gandhi's disciples listened to the complaints of village women who said that their husbands were drinking away the money they earned, leaving their children hungry.  The disciple had the women bring their husbands before him in the morning when they were sober.  He extracted their promise to change their ways. Then he turned to the women and said, "If your husband should break this promise, then you are to engage in satyagraha –nonviolent resistence.  Do not clean, cook for him , or have sex with him."  That was in rural india two generations ago.  It is interesting to think of American women needing the same sage advice now.

    • http://www.houseofbetazed.com Mriana

If non-violent resistance, (refusal to have sex) worked for the Gandhi's disciple, then it's good enough for me and I must be onto something too.  :D

    I’m not
sure how much anyone can hope to answer this because there’s so much to answer and it’s
a bit of a rant too. I’m not writing as an American or the Republican I could
not be if I were an American, but only as a writer on religion. As such it’s
the perspectives on religion (which apparently hasn’t a single redeeming
feature!) and the Bible which interest me most and on them we surely need less
heat and more light than here.

    As usual
from humanists the perspectives on anything scriptural are simply sweeping. I agree
in finding Deut  22:28 on the raped
virgin belonging to her rapist appalling and even one of the most appalling
verses in the Bible – assuming we quite understand what is meant and assuming (which
many Jews and Christians don’t) that the secondary laws, often closely related
to customs of the time, derive directly from and  express God. The fact is
that, if raped, the woman was deemed spoiled; she had lost a bride price
    and  social standing. She therefore
needed support if she was not be an outcast or prostitute. The rapist is punished
by having to support his victim lifelong financially. We don’t know enough
about early marriage or divorce to know exactly what could be signified and
entailed by this law. Doubtless often the woman though “married” to the rapist
was often returned to her family who demanded the support penalty. We may
expect more blurring and flexibility existed than the laws suggest, and
likewise in the later still patriarchal world with which St Paul engaged and
where obviously he couldn’t mean any silence rule as regards women too
absolutely or for a start he couldn’t approve female prophetesses who obviously
had to speak to fulfill their function.

    Many of us
are unhappy about religious right Christians on such as abortion for which at
least some situations like risk to the life of the mother was a pretext for
even early Christians. And it is almost ludicrous how some Christians will take
authority for a variety of ethical views from the same Torah that (at least
theoretically if not practically) mandates death for all sorts of transgressions,
yet then make out that purging the impurity of rape by abortion today amounts
to murder and sin against everything God requires of us. This is merely
incoherent thinking on the part of Christians. This conceded, it is hardly any
improvement to get careless with life after the manner of secularists and
approve abortion for almost anything at any term of pregnancy. Right wing
Christians and radical atheists are often two sides of the same rather
fundamentalist, literalist coin, one for which context, historical, cultural or any
other counts for almost nothing against the force of bare statement and a quasi
political will to self imposition. If the feminist writer here has made God a
monster, she is in danger of making herself into a merely angrily avenging
Lilith. The truth, as is so often the case, is to be found  somewhere inbetween and arises amid cool
meditation of the facts. I didn’t get on here to recommend my own writing but
my “Cosmic Father: Spirituality as Relationship”  (available Amazon) frankly confronts the dual
challenge of current atheist reading of a sometimes apparently unjust bible at
the same time as having to suffer the incoherent thinking of believers
determined to impose their views. If however we do take the challenge and stop
to think, much may yet be learned and our insight deepened.

The fact is, the Religious Reich is taking those verses and trying to throw back many centuries.  When I say Religious Reich, I don't mean Episcopalians or other liberal Xians.  Of course, there are those Xians, who are not extreme and try to twist verses into something they are not, just so they do not have to face the vileness of the verses or texts.  That's fine, if they don't try to live as though the Bible is the literal word of God and believe we must live by such an archaic book, but I hardly think the mythology has any redeeming value, despite I am hardly a literalist concerning the literature of the Bible, but the Religious Reich does take it literally and that is where the danger to society comes into play.

Personally, I like the story of Lilith.  She was, IMO, the first feminist (If only in mythology).  I don't believe any of the Bible is historical.  I believe it is all mythology, but the Religious Reich takes it very literally and wants everyone to live by such archaic religious laws.  However, she is, IMO, one of the better feminine archetypes within literature and a much better one than Mother Mary ever was.  Mary seems too much like a victim of Stockholm Syndrome.

BTW, for the record, among the many things I did study in college was literature, religion, and mythology.  I also do not agree with abortion for almost anything either, but I do think women should have the freedom to choose that option for various reasons.

"Cosmic Father:  Spirituality as Relationship"?  What makes you so sure it is a father?  What makes you think it is a parental figure at all?  What even makes you think you can define it at all?  You know the Tao has a saying, "Those you say, don't know and those who know, don't say."  Another saying is, "To describe the Tao [or even a possible god for that matter] is to not describe it at all."  Try meditating on that for a while.

I took the challenge to stop and think… many times.

1 Timothy 2:12King James Version (KJV)12But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.1 Corinthians 14:34-35King James Version (KJV)34Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law.35And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.Leviticus 271 Again, the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 2 “Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘When a man makes a difficult vow, he shall be valued according to your valuation of persons belonging to the LORD. 3 If your valuation is of the male from twenty years even to sixty years old, then your valuation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary. 4 Or if it is a female, then your valuation shall be thirty shekels. 5 If it be from five years even to twenty years old then your valuation for the male shall be twenty shekels and for the female ten shekels. 6 But if they are from a month even up to five years old, then your valuation shall be five shekels of silver for the male, and for the female your valuation shall be three shekels of silver. 7 If they are from sixty years old and upward, if it is a male, then your valuation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels.

There's no mistaking the above passages. There is no mystery in them. There is no hidden meaning to be found or deeper understanding to explore. In the bible, it is clear that women are of less value than men. God, apparently, is the original misogynist.

Admin… I don't understand what is going on with disqus. Earlier it wouldn't post two links and instead was appending one to the other. Now, it simple ran the different bible passages together so as to make them almost unreadable.

I think you are unregistered, Sheldon, with Disqus.  I cannot control Disqus other than to moderate, so I'm afraid I can't help you with your complaint.  I believe if you are registered, you will have an opportunity to edit your comments.

Adding to your comment, though, consider that "all are made in the image of God" in the Christian religion; yet, there is no woman in the 'godhead,' only a man, a son, and a spirit.  So in Christianity, women are irrelevant, in my opinion, because they are not a part of the godhead.  Their existence is only to serve males.

We carried an article awhile ago about a Christian pastor who was preaching that women should not be allowed to have painkillers during childbirth because they are cursed because of Eve's sin.  I'm assuming that this preacher feels that women should not be allowed painkillers for bad cramps, either, because they are cursed.

              • Deborah_B

It was getting impossible for me to write articles using Chrome because it would not copy code correctly, would not read some flash or java applications, and kept making my laptop crash (and I've got a lot of processing power, ram and memory, so it's not a computer issue).  So it's back to Firefox for me, which is working a lot better … and all of Sheldon's links worked for me.

UGH!  I cannot stand Foxfire.  It gives me more problems than Chrome. I do like Avant and Orca though. I stopped using them because Flash doesn't always work with them or didn't until they updated it again recently. Opera isn't bad, but it's not my first choice. IE, forget it.

      • http://www.houseofbetazed.com Mriana

You are right Sheldon, there is no mistaking any of the passages, but some more liberal Xians like to gloss over such passages and pretend they are not there- ie Episcopalians. I can't call that a crime, until they try to say they aren't there or you are misinterpreting them or what have you. Then I have BIG problems.  S/he would have more luck finding the "hidden meaning" in the Tao.  There is nothing to ponder, meditate on, or find "hidden meaning" in the verses you and Valerie quoted.  The fact is, as you pointed out, those are the very verses, which cannot be misinterpreted, the Religious Reich uses to enslave women. To gloss over them and pretend they are not there or to insinuate there is hidden meaning in them, is to twist and redefine them, which is just plain wearing blinders and the more conservative Episcopalians KNOW they are there, thus why they refuse to ordain women and gays, while the more liberal Episcopalians (and I'm using them as an example) pretend they are not there, for whatever reason.

Mriana… your very first words, "Religion is nothing more than mind slavery", struck a chord and reminded me of something I read. I don't know if you've ever heard of Scott Bidstrup… he has some interesting things to say about religion being a mind-virus so I thought I'd post a couple of links to his essays.

I am not from the USA, are radical Christian groups really so strong and oppressive towards women? I live in Eastern Europe, know a lot of religious people, married man, but none who would actually use the Bible to justify the subjugation of their wives. It is horrible to use 3 000 year old – or 500 year old standards. those people did not subjugate women because God told them so, they did it to boost their egos, to know there are always people -women –  weaker next to them whom they can treat as they want to. God has nothing to do with this.

    • http://www.houseofbetazed.com Mriana

Yes, esp if women are in such "cults", but it is getting where these "radicals" as you call them want to create a Theocracy starting with passing laws that forbid women from getting health care appropriate to their gender.  We aren't men and our health care needs are different.  They are using the Bible (blatantly and not so blatantly) to pass laws to prevent women from getting contraception and forbidding them from having their own choice in having a baby or not, by attempting to pass laws that prevent a woman from even getting a lifesaving abortion- which includes, terminating a dead fetus (which they are calling a baby), which can lead to a septic infection and even death of the woman, if not terminated.  What I don't get is, in such a case, the baby is already dead, so what the hell is their problem?  They try to classify such a termination as "late term abortion", but that "late term abortion" is aborting a dead fetus.

Of course it has nothing to do with a god.  It's nothing more than the Religious Reich attempting to assert power over women.  They are saying that a fetus (dead or alive) is more important than a woman who is already alive, living in this world.  They are currently passing "personhood" bills for fetuses, making that fetus more important than the woman's life and health and attempting to make sure every egg she passes, which is dumb, gets fertilized.  All it does is show their stupidity of modern science and medicine.
