Bill Maher’s New Rule: Atheism is a Religion Like Abstinence is a Sex Position, With First Post-humous Debaptism

I could not say it better myself or even funnier.  Bill Maher stated, “A new rule, until someone claims to see Christopher Hitchens’ face in a tree stump, idiots must stop claiming the atheism is a religion.”

He instead that there is one little difference, religion is defined as a belief in a superhuman controlling power and atheism is precisely not that.” He continued to say, “Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position.”

He went on to say the religious compare science, such as Climate Change, Darwinism, and Evolution to religion. Evidence based beliefs are not religions. He said, “It’s a dodge out of the tradition of ‘I know you are but what am I?’” He insisted that it is not fair that people who cannot defend their own nonsense get to create a fake fair and balance argument, the way they do when they try to say that Creationism is equally valid.

Before he is done with his rant, he mentioned that is only fair [atheists] get to undo the loony stuff the religious do and that he would start by undoing the Mormons post-humous baptism of Mitt Romney’s dead father-in-law, who was an atheist.

He then goes on to do “history’s first unbaptism for the late Edward Davies,” which is a very humourous few minutes.

    Good one, Mriana!

The concept that atheism is a "religion" makes no sense.

Religion is based upon a belief or a faith in something. God can not be proven to exist or to not exist. If you choose to believe that God exists that is a religious belief. Since it can't be proven that God doesn't exist, belief in that also requires belief or faith. A person who decides they don't want to be religious should probably declare themselve to be agnostic. They don't know whether or not there is a god and they don't care.

It's not a religion, but it IS a belief… a belief that Science has sufficiently explained the workings of the Universe.

My understanding is that atheists simply say that they see no evidence of a God.

"Evidence based beliefs are not religions", it's SO easy to say there's no "evidence" for faith/religion when you assume there's none. Strict scientific enquiry is not the only valid form of evidence for a claim– if one holds to this then they need evidence to support this claim. Just another Philosophy. You can't categorise all faith claims as having no evidence, that is irrational subjective, arbitrary dismissal of plausible potentialities.

Atheism is not a religion but a reasonable return to religious thought. There are those who believe in God or spiritual entities, and also those who only believe what can be explained by science. It definitely can not be called religion.
