Are you having a tough time keeping your New Year’s resolution, now that January is about over? Perhaps our guests on the Thursday, January 26 segment of the God Discussion show can inspire you and keep you on track.
This week's show is a collection of interviews about belief, from a self-improvement perspective and from Christian perspectives where faith helped to transform challenging situations.
Our main guest is internationally-acclaimed motivational speaker, Barbara Hofmeister, who has authored To Be Or Not To Be – The Choice is Yours. Barbara is a refugee from Communist Germany and knows firsthand what it is like to be living in difficult circumstances. Severely abused and with low self-esteem, she set out to live her personal dream traveling the world. Her readers rave about the practical approach she takes toward self-improvement in her book, and Barbara is a much-sought speaker in Europe and America. Her website is BarbaraHofmeister.com.

When it comes to making positive changes in your life, belief that you can do it is a chief ingredient. Barbara Bruce, host of the “Believe” show in Arizona’s White Mountains believed in her mission so much that she walked into the offices of a radio station and got her first gig, without ever having had broadcasting experience. Her “Believe” show is now very popular in the rural counties her station serves, and she’s in so much demand that she is host for a number of different programs, from dealing with drug addictions to local business profiles. Barbara’s spirituality plays a large part in her outlook. Her website is BarbaraBruce.com.
We’ve written about Johnny Hammer on GodDiscussion.com back in December 2010 because his unique style caught our attention – he’s a rising talent in the Christian music world whose songs gets worshipers out of the pews and onto the dance floor. Johnny, a bright and ambitious young man, has been playing violin and piano since he was 4 years old. When he was 12, he recorded “Mary Did You Know” in “technopraise” style that hit the top 40 in the European Christian music charts. Johnny’s agent and technopraise composer, Yuri Mamchur, originally from Germany and Russia, is also multi-talented, with advanced business, law and music degrees. The latest hit from Johnny and Yuri is “Hands to the Sky.” We’ll find out how all of this came about on the show – and both Johnny and Yuri’s views on how to create your dreams.
For many years, Darcy experienced severe medical conditions – one of them kept her trapped in a bubble of environmental illness, where she could look at the world but not participate in it. The other condition kept her and her husband childless, with the pain and despair of miscarriage after miscarriage. A devout Christian, she had grown up in a church that first taught that God would heal people but, since healing wasn’t apparently happening, later taught that God did not heal people and that illness was their burden to bear. A chance encounter changed her thinking – and faith – and she now has a very different and fulfilling life. Darcy's story is published on her and her husband's website, ClearlyHis.com.
Kevin Benton, like Darcy, is a devout Christian. He couldn't help wonder why God was forsaking him as he lay in a hospital bed, waiting to die. With a rare heart condition, he was given one day to live. But something unusual happened, and he'll tell us about it on the show. Kevin is a minister, youth and young adult pastor, and child care social worker. Previously a professional basketball player, Kevin has played against some of the best players in the world including N.B.A. players Kobe Bryant, Yoa Ming, Aaron McKie, Rick Mahorn, Jerome Allen, and Paul Graham. He is the founder of Kevin Benton Ministries and the author of “A Field Trip to Hell.” He has been a guest on the Trinity Broadcasting Network a number of times. We enjoy Kevin's articles at GodDiscussion.com which tackle tough theological questions. Kevin's personal website is KevinBentonMinistries.com.
Is it divine intervention that makes good things happen? Or is it a practical approach to making your dreams happen? That’s for you to decide.
But if there’s a common thread in these stories, it’s belief. We hope this week’s guests will help you believe in yourself and have the fortitude to overcome life’s challenges for a fulfilling year 2012.
Due to juggling various time zones from Europe and the United States, many of the interviews were pre-recorded. However, our chat room will be open and we will have some live segments. Chat room tips, more time zone links, and a general overview of the show are here.
