Pope suggests that journalists consider silence, Twitter style comments

The VaticanPope Benedict XVI has called for journalist to consider the power of listening and reflection for this year's World Day of Communication.

The Vatican's Council for Social Communications presented the Pope's message, titled "Silence and Word — Path of Evangelization."  The Pope believes that silence might say as much, if not more, than the spoken and written word.

“I think that it's not only his personal characteristics but probably his knowledge, his thinking, his reflection about the human being is helping us to rediscover what it means to give an authentic deep sense, human sense to my communication, Msgr. Claudio Maria Celli, president of the Council, said.

The Pope acknowledged that communication has largely moved to search engines and social networks on the web. His presentation noted that questions and answers are frequently posted online, but to focus on important issues, one should also consider silence and reflection.

The Pope talked about the power of "Twitter style comments," saying that the short phrases that are no longer than a verse from the Bible can communicate profound thoughts.
