Christian anti-abortion group says aborted fetuses are used in food taste-enhancement tests

a bar codeLast April, the anti-abortion site, LifeSite News, reported that aborted fetuses are finding their way into the commercial food industry's research.

They were taking issue with Senomyx' "isolated taste receptors" program, which a group called "Children of God for Life" claims come from "human embryonic kidney cells taken from an electively aborted baby to produce those receptors." Last spring, Children of God for Life issued an action alert calling for the boycott of Pepsico, Kraft Foods, Campbell Soup, Solae and Nestlé, which the anti-abortion group alleges hire Senomyx for flavor enhancement.

Campbell Soup cut ties with Senomyx, according to the Children of God for Life. PepsiCo responded,

PepsiCo has a strong set of defined values we strive to live up to. Unfortunately, there is some misinformation being circulated related to research techniques that have been used for decades by universities, hospitals, government agencies, and private companies around the world. These claims are meant to suggest that human fetal tissue is somehow used in our research.

That is both inaccurate and something we would never do or even consider.

It also is inaccurate to suggest that tissue or cells somehow are being used as product ingredients. That’s dangerous, unethical and against the law. Every ingredient in every one of our products is reviewed and approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Gwen Gwen Rosenberg Vice President, Investor Relations & Corporate Communications Senomyx, Inc., responded:

This information you referenced is NOT correct. It would be illegal and unethical to use human cells of any kind in food products. I hope this is helpful for you.  We appreciate your concern.

While the boycott appears to have gone nowhere because of the Children of God's claims, Christians such as "SpiritualWarfare22" continue to promote the outlandish idea that human embryos are used in food, as shown in the following video titled "Aborted Fetus Foods" published on December 10, 2011, where SpiritualWarfare claims that Satan is ruling the world today:
