2011's dead birds in Beebe
Beebe, Arkansas, made the news last New Year's Day when thousands of dead blackbirds rained on the town. Some Christian leaders saw biblical prophecy in Hosea 4 being fulfilled, and others, like the 'prophet' Cindy Jacobs blamed the gays for the mysterious bird deaths.
Once again, dead blackbirds are falling on Beebe.
The Washington Post reports that last year, revelers set off fireworks that spooked the birds from their roost, and officials were reporting a similar occurrence Saturday as 2012 approached.
Indiana pastor Paul Begley was one of the first, if not the first, preacher to see biblical meaning in the bird deaths last New Year's. And with 2012 bringing similar occurrences, he says, "I told you so." He has been saying and continues to say that unusual animal deaths will continue because God is fulfilling the Hosea prophecy:
4:1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land.
4:2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood.
4:3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away.
Fireworks are not the cause of the blackbird deaths, he contends, because the only dead birds are blackbirds, not other bird species, and that there would be massive bird kills during the 4th of July firework celebrations. "It's time to listen to the word of the Lord," Begley warns, advising viewers to give their lives to Jesus Christ.
