Churches and Temples Shelter Tawain Evacuees

Taiwan has started to accept foreign aid as people take shelter in churches and temples in the aftermath of Typhoon Morakot.   The typhoon was the worst to hit Taiwan since 1959.

Roads to the mountains have been damaged and may take months to repair.   Approximately 35,000 mountain residents have been evacuated, but thousands of villagers remain stranded.   The churches and temples are sheltering thousands of evacuees, many of whom are anxious to get home so that they do not need to continue accepting charity and so that they feed their stranded livestock and animals.
