Nuns in the United States are under the microscope, according to a report published by Religion Dispatches. The Vatican is investigating US Women religious, concerned that nuns are not in line on issues like same-sex love, women's priestly ministry, and inter-religious dialogue. Apparently, the Vatican is concerned that that Catholic women, including nuns, think and act on their own without relying on male authorities to tell them how. There's been a sharp decrease in the number of nuns within the Church today as compared to the 1960s. The median age for is now over 70. There are only several hundred sisters are in their 30s.
A study by the University of Michigan indicates that there may be a correlation between majors that are selected in college and whether or not the student will become an atheist. According to the university's press release:
College students who major in the social sciences and humanities are likely to become less religious, while those majoring in education are likely to become more religious.
But students majoring in biology and physical sciences remain just about as religious as they were when they started college.
The Peroutka brothers are hosting an "Institute on the Constitution" seminar next month to help local and state lawmakers battle "federal lawlessness." A featured speaker in upcoming institutes is Professor Richard Weikart, author of From Darwin to Hitler: Evolutionary Ethics, Eugenics and Racism in Germany. He argues that Hitler's "ideology revolved around evolutionary ethics — the idea that whatever promoted evolutionary progress is good and whatever hinders it is bad."
