Anti-abortion crusader Randall Terry is running for president on the Democratic ticket. He knows he cannot win, but the purpose of his "campaign" is to take advantage of FCC rules so that he can air graphic anti-abortion ads.
In a press release issued by his "campaign," Terry stated,
FCC-licensed TV stations are required by law to run the ads of federal candidates within the 45-day window of any primary election or caucus in a given state.
After Iowa, the Terry campaign will focus on New Hampshire and Boston.
Super Bowl Ads will run in local markets.
Terry's media campaign will be buying ad time during the Super Bowl in various states to run similar ads. As long as the Super Bowl airs within the 45-day window of a given primary, the stations will be required to run the ad.
His advertisements target Evangelical and Catholic voters. To the Evangelicals, he warns that voting for President Obama — who he characterizes as a baby killer for supporting Planned Parenthood — is like "attacking Jesus Christ himself."
Abortion is not the only target of Terry's ads. He also accuses President Obama of supporting terrorism and Sharia law because of his opposition to offshore drilling.
Right Wing Watch reported this summer that Terry was actively recruiting phony Democratic candidates for a number of races so that the anti-abortion advertisements can be aired.
