The Tree of Life – An Illustrated Study in Magic

The Tree of Life An Illustrated Study in Magic

Israel Regardie wrote The Tree of Life, a book many consider his magnum opus, in 1932. It has continued to sell for decades. And no wonder. Up until the time this book was published, very little information about true high magic was available to the public.

In this book, Regardie reveals the secrets of real magic. He begins with an explanation of what magic is and, just as importantly, what magic is not. He explains that it is a spiritual study and practice which, along with forms of yoga, forms the two branches of the tree that is mysticism. Magic is not being a medium or a psychic. Then he explains the tools of the magician, what they mean, and how to use them. He explains the techniques of evocation and invocation, skrying, and astral travel. He shows how the Qabalah unites everything. He even gives a description of the secrets of sexual magick. All of this is in a clear, lucid writing style. This book is simply a must for anyone who is, or aspires to be, a real magician.

Although Chic and Sandra Tabatha Cicero were friends of Regardie and are Senior Adepts of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, what changes could they have made to this classic book? Well, they did change the spelling from British style to American. And they did change his transliterations of Hebrew into the more popular style he used in his later books. But nothing vital was changed or removed. Everything else they added was complementary to the text that was there. And what incredible additions they are! Extensive annotations throughout every chapter; over 100 illustrations; more descriptive contents pages; a glossary, a bibliography and an index. They've even added a biographical note on Regardie and the importance of this book to him and to the occult world.

This book contains some of the finest occult writing that has ever been produced. And with the new material by the Ciceros, it becomes a must-have for any magician!

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars wonderful review
if somebody is looking for a complete introduction to the study of magic, or if somebody has an older copy and would like a clearer, more usable version, he or she will find a better choice to this edition the tree of life.because this book has provided spiritual seekers with the most comprehensive study of the common threads of magical theory and practice.

3 Stars The tree of life Israel Regardie

I've recently purchased this book and "BOY it's a mouth full". I'm at the 60th page and, I think I need mystical powers just to help me finish it! For every sentence I read, I need to decipher a couple of words.

There's a review covering this book where the critic boasts the fact he read it in two day's. I'm sorry, but I think I need about two day's worth of reading of a dictionary and a thesaurus just to make sense of the "unnecessary toughened vocabulary of this book".

Apart from that, the book seems philosophically enlightening.

4 Stars gift
This item was given as a gift to a friend, who specifically requested it, and expressed great satisfaction on receiving it. Pricing, delivery and product integrity were all satisfactory. My rating it a 4 out of a possible 5 reflects only the fact that I lack first hand experience with the purchased item, and can only reflect the limited information conveyed to me by its recipient.

3 Stars Excessively wordy
Please review portions of this book before buying it. While I'm sure the writers are able to write, the style of writing is excessively wordy filled with needlessly multisylabic adjectives. As a consequence, it is difficult to read not to mention understand. The writers have forgotten that meaning and information are lost when they are diluted with excessive words.

5 Stars Israel Regardie Classic
Positively great work from Regardie, packed full of knowlege and enlightening information. Regardie has explained the deep meanings within the Tree of Life, Kabbala and occult subjects in a more easy to swallow format than most of the traditional cryptic titles. I got a lot out of this book and did not want to put it down for long, suited to people with limited knowlege and backgrounds on this subject. if you enjoy this you will find many more referenced titles to direct you further along the study! Serious magickal stuff, with Regardies twist of psychiatry theories thrown in, it all makes sence when you contemplate a little on what is written. The new editors don't distract to much from the original text, and as they state in the intro the added images and info is a good complimentary addition to the novel

    They're gonna eat me alive
    If I stumble

Can you hear my heart beating like a hammer?
    Beating like a hammer?
Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer
    Hard to be soft
    Tough to be tender

Come take my pulse, the pace is on a runaway train
Help, I'm alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer
    Beating like a hammer

    If you're still alive
    My regrets are few
    If my life is mine
    What shouldn't I do?
    I get wherever I'm going
    I get whatever I need
    While my blood's still flowing
    And my heart still beats…
