Bonnie Erbe wrote an intriguing post at the U.S. News and World Report blog which suggests that Christian values and the Bush era "abstinence only" policies have contributed to a sharp rise in teenage pregnancies.
And she cites the facts to prove it.
She writes,
All that talk of creationism and abstinence-only education set us back behind our global competitors such as India and China in terms of young Americans' scientific education. It also set us back in terms of fighting unwed teen pregnancy and spread of sexually-transmitted diseases.
Sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis for teenage girls and AIDs for adolescent boys rose sharply during the Bush years. These types of diseases had previously been on the decline.

It is long overdue that the evangelicals admit they have a problem. They are still in denial about the effectiveness of abstinence-only programs.
I agree. At some point, reality needs to set in. When teenagers are told they can't do something, they often will do it out of curiosity or rebellion.
I don't know why this all happens under Bush administration.
