The oldest known bible manuscript in the world, the Codex Sinaiticus, may prove to be troubling for fundamentalist Christians who believe the bible is the absolute and inerrant word of God, the BBC reports.
Among other things,
- The Codex contains books that are not in the currently authorized bible, including two extra books in the New Testament.
- Some references to the ascension of Jesus to heaven are omitted in the world's oldest bible copy.
- The book claims that the Jews, not the Romans, killed Jesus.
- Jesus does not say "Father forgive them for they know not what they do."
Christians who understand that the bible was written by man and subject to error may not be bothered by the differences, but fundamentalists who believe that the current King James Version (and related translations) used today is the inerrent and absolute word of God may find the Codex to be unsettling.
The Codex Sinaiticus is being digitally assembled for online viewing.

Very, very interesting. I'm sure there are some fundamentalists that would find this troubling. As I read of this I though of the Mormons. It may of interest to note that they believe the Bible to be God's world only as far as it is translated correctly. Their Book of Mormon also states that the Jews killed Jesus, not the Romans.
Interesting points!
Is Codex Sinaiticus will be part of the bible that we use now?
I doubt it, because the current version was "approved" in 325 CE or thereabouts. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.
Intersting, but it is more or less a forgone conclusion that the Jews were basically responsible for Christ's crucifixion anyway. It was a Prophesy of the old Testament which was entirely necessary fro our salvation.
Awesome! these old texts are the fascinating things to look at because they give some great clues about the real history, that has been to many times repackaged and some parts lost.
