California's Judy Chu is the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress. She won in a special election against Republican Betty Chu, and was sworn in on Thursday. Chu represents California's 32nd District, replacing Hilda Solis, who was appointed by President Obama as US Labor Secretary. Dr. Chu is a Democrat. The Democrats hold a 78 seat majority in the House.
