Joseph — who is Judah/Israel's favorite son — is also favored by God. In a previous segment, Joseph's brothers had ditched him in a well because they were jealous and were sick and tired of listening to Joseph talk about his dreams in which his family would bow down to him.
In Genesis Chapter 39, the story picks up with Joseph managing the affairs of Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard. Joseph has the magic touch and makes Potiphar very wealthy. Potiphar does not know the details of what Joseph does; he simply trusts him.
However, Potiphar's wife tries to seduce Joseph, who keeps turning him down. She finally grabs at his clothing and snags a garment when Joseph runs out of the house. She tells her husband that Joseph tried to rape her and she presents the garment as evidence. Potiphar throws Joseph into the king's prison.
With his magic touch, Joseph gets along well with the guards and manages the prison affairs.
Pretty good chapter …
Joseph seems like a talented, likable guy — so long as you're not a family member being told you'll bow to him.
