Fox News on WTC Memorial Cross: Grumpy, malcontent atheists make fools of themselves and are pains in the rear

WTC crossThe American Atheists organization is suing over the placement of "the WTC Cross" — crossbeams found from the rubble of the 9-11 attacks that brought down the World Trade Center — at the WTC Memorial and Fox News' commentators are not pleased.

According to the American Atheists,

As you may remember, the buildings were made from girders crossing each other, and in the rubble some Christians found a pair of girders still welded that closely (not exactly, but closely enough) resemble a Christian Roman Cross.

The cross has become a Christian icon. It has been blessed by so-called holy men a few times, and presented as a reminder that God, in his infinite power of goodness, who couldn’t be bothered to stop the Muslim terrorists, or stop the fire, or hold up the buildings to stop 3000 people from being crushed, cared enough to bestow upon us some rubble that resembles a cross. Ridiculous.

This cross is set to be included in the official WTC memorial. No other religions or philosophies will be honored. It will just be a Christian icon, in the middle of OUR museum. This will not happen without a fight.

We love this country, and our constitution. We honor the dead and respect the families, which is why we will not allow the many Christians who died get preferential representation over the many non-Christians who suffered the same fate. This was an attack against America, not Christianity, and Christianity’s does not deserve special placement just because the girders look like their religious symbol.

We will pay for our own memorial of equal size inside the museum, or the museum will not include the cross. Equality is an all-or-nothing deal.

Joining Fox & Friends, Fox News commentator Laura Ingraham declared,

Whether it's the criticism of how we treat Christmas or some ridiculous billboard that will go up before Easter time, invariably, if something even borderline related to faith emerges in the public square, you can bet your bottom dollar that a grumpy, malcontent atheist will make a complete fool out of himself or herself and file a lawsuit. And what I think what it does is, in my mind, it should give impetus to people of faith all across this country to stand up proudly for what you believe in. And if you don't do that, then guess what? The people will proceed with impunity to make, you know, pains in the rear ends of themselves on these issues and cow the people who really do believe that look, this is an important part of our life and this is an iconic symbol that emerged from the rubble and since most of us are people of deep faith and abiding faith, then we should be able to have our moment and our little symbol as well.

I am all for Thomas Jefferson's wall of separation, but sometimes some atheist groups go too far and pull stunts for publicity.

Shame on these people. If they don't believe, they don't have to look or care about the cross. They need to allow people who DO believe to have something that gives them comfort.
I've never understood why, if someone doesn't believe, they care that others do.
