Church Reactions to Michael Jackson's Death

The funeral has not taken place yet, but Pastor Bill Keller of Live Prayer online church has sent out a press release, claiming that Michael Jackson is in hell.   He blasts Jackson for growing up as a Jehovah Witness (a cult, according to Keller) and discounts the rock star's charitable works.   With no sympathy to the Jackson family, who has not buried their son yet, Keller writes in his press release:

I know it makes people feel better when a famous person or someone they know dies, though think that they are in Heaven. This is why I have literally given my life 24/7/365 these past 20 years for the Gospel, because the FACT is, those who die without Jesus will not be in Heaven, but in the flames of hell for all eternity. What you believe matters, and based on what he believes, Michael Jackson is not in Heaven, but in eternal torment and punishment for his sins.

Meanwhile, black churches across the country celebrated Jackson's life this weekend and noted the good that he did during his lifetime.   The AP's John Mone visited a church that Jackson once visited in 2004 during the midst of a troubled time.

  1. I have one question, how can a loving God torment people forever? The Bible says "God is love" not God has love, but that his being IS love. Doesn't it seem cruel of his part to torment humans for ever when they have sinned for let's say 20, 40, 50 years?
