A recent study by Back to the Bible finds that many people own bibles but do not read them. The group's study was based on a poll of 40,000 people. They are using radio, television and the Internet and other technologies to encourage people to read the bible by making it easier to access.
The group claims that the bible changes people's lives and when they read it, they do not engage in self-destructive behavior such as Internet pornography or drinking.
There are a variety of reading schedules available at the Back to the Bible site for those who want to read the entire bible.
[Editor's Note: The Back to the Bible site is written from an apologists' point of view; we, too, offer the "Bible Slam" with a more critical look at the bible based on the claim that it is inerrant and offer comments to encourage discussion. We think people don't read the bible because it's boring. We've tried to make it more interesting and to allow for debate. Regardless, we think that everyone who claims to be a Christian has a duty to read the bible, whether it is from an apologists' point of view or a more critical point of view, and applaud Back to the Bible's efforts.]
