Why American Christianity is Failing
Ever since the Republican alliance with the Religious Right, Christianity has been suffering from a severe decline. It doesn't help when you have people like Pat Robertson and the late Jerry Falwell who made their careers by selling a hateful version of religion that abandoned all of the principles which Jesus taught. Mike Papantonio discusses these and other reasons that have contributed to the decline of American Christianity.
Papantonio highlights some of the insights from progressive Christian leaders, which include:
- Stop preaching politics from the pulpit.
- Distance the mainstream church from the fringe elements.
- Encourage fundamentalists to accept people who are different.
- Return to the day when organized Christianity was prone to promote peace, not war.
- Be willing to adapt to the realities of a changing world.
