Hate Crimes, Arson and Rising from the Ashes

Two churches in Omaha were the target of hate crimes on Friday. A silver painted "KKK" was spray painted at each church by 49-year-old Larry Trudell, who was apparently drunk at the time he vandalized the properties. Police have labeled these two incidents as hate crimes.

Rising from the Ashes.

A historic church in Ft. Dodge, Iowa, was burned down in May 1999 by arsonist Kevin Beck.   For over one hundred years, the church had served the community and saw many baptisms, weddings and funerals.   Some in the community were heartbroken when the structure was torched.

After four years of having church services in a school gymnasium, the church has been reconstructed and bears the testament, "From Ashes to Glory."   During the gymnasium years, church attendance went up.

Members of the local community muse about the incident in the following video, which will load in a few seconds.
