Pope Benedict has taken on a political agenda during his visit to the West Bank. The Pope told Palestinians that he sympathizes with their suffering and understands their quest for a sovereign homeland. The Pope also called on Israel to end its embargo of the Gaza Strip.
The Pope celebrated Mass at Manger's Square. In Bethlehem, the Pope's political message was well-received. Although the message has been political, the Vatican insists that this has been a religious visit.
