National Prayer Day Review: Dobson, Forbes Criticize Obama

At a May 7, 2009, press conference at Capitol Hill, Focus on the Family's James Dobson and Virginia GOP Congressman J. Randy Forbes chew out President Obama for not giving them as much public attention as they wanted for the National Day of Prayer. Forbes starts the interview with a rant about the United States being a "Judeo-Christian Nation."

Forbes also talks about our country tolerating ALL forms of religion because of Judeo Christian principles.   Perhaps he ought to crack open the Bible, which certainly does not endorse religious tolerance:

Deuteronomy 13:6-10 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers; Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him: But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die.

2 Chronicles 15:13 Whosoever would not seek the LORD God of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

Mark 16:16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Rachel Maddow's Show on the National Day of Prayer had an excellent discussion about the separation of church and state, the constitution, and an "official day of prayer" in America.

Maddow cites some fantastic quotes from Thomas Jefferson and James Madison who argue against a presidential proclamation for prayer.

Maddow is joined by Rev. Dr. Welton Gaddy, a baptist minister and president of the Interfaith Alliance, who understands the need to keep government and religion separate. He articulates the main points of the church/state argument very well.

We do need a national Prayer Day. Especially with what we are going through right now.
