The Bible Slam: Genesis Chapter 13

Abram and his nephew Lot end up back where they started, but find that the land cannot support the cattle that they had accumulated. Rather than fighting, they decide to part ways. Lot heads toward the land of Sodom and after he leaves, God promises Abram that he will have a huge number of descendants who will inherit the land as far as Abram can see.

Things to Consider.

The King James Version of Genesis 13 states:

13:13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

As noted in the Skeptic's Annotated version of the King James Bible, Christians often cite Sodom as a biblical example of why homosexuals are abominations and why tolerating them will lead to national destruction. However, Ezekiel 16 explains Sodom's sin:

16:49 Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fullness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Ironically, many young people are rejecting Christianity today because of its political righteousness (pride) and obsession with gays instead of helping the poor and needy.

Also as noted by the skeptics and the New Testament, God's promise to Abram was never fulfilled.
