In this chapter, the 600-year-old Noah, his immediate family and an indeterminate number of animals board the ark and are saved from the flood. All other living things (that breathed through nostrils, apparently) were killed.
Quick Tips & Navigation.
- About the Bible Slam – If you are new here, please read the "about" page to understand the choice of the word "slam" and to read the Important Disclaimer about swear words. We have provided a link to biblical reading without swear words or commentary on the about page, just in case swear words are offensive to you.
- To fully comprehend the Bible philosophy, we suggest you start at the very beginning and work your way through, other than skipping around through it.

Points to Consider.
- How many animals were boarded? In the previous chapter, it was two of each. In this chapter, it is seven pair of "clean beasts" (not previously defined in Genesis, so we don't know what these are) and seven pair of fowl.
- The Skeptic's Bible has an interesting analysis concerning this section:
7:13 In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
7:14 They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.
According to their analysis and citing the Encyclopedia of Life, this would mean that since there were a million species or so at the time, the animals must have boarded "on the selfsame day" at a rate of at least 20 animals/second.
- It is unclear how long the flood lasted. According to Genesis 7:17, "And the flood was forty days upon the earth." Genesis 7:24 states, "And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days."
- Chelev makes a great point: This is a loving god?

Here's a cartoon version of the Noah & The Ark story. It's pretty good!
