Christians' most cherished beliefs and customs may have stemmed from Egypt and other cultures, according to Christ in Egypt: The Horus-Jesus Connection.
There are some startling correlations between the Egyptian God and the Christian Jesus. For instance, find out whether the following are true about Horus:
He was born on December 25 or the winter solstice in a manger;
He was of royal descent and born of a virgin mother;
His birth was announced by a star in the east and three wise men;
At age 12 he was found teaching in the temple and at age 30 he was baptized and the man who baptized him was beheaded;
He performed miracles and walked on water;
He had 12 disciples;
He was buried for three days in a tomb and resurrected; and
He was the Son of Man, the Good Shepard, the Lamb of Good, the Word of Truth, etc.
Based on the research that is documented in the book, Christ in Egypt alleges that Christianity was largely created in Alexandria, Egypt, by wealthy citizens, politicians and brotherhood groups. The book explains why this information has generally been kept from the public.
Thanks for the information about Christ in Egypt; I'll have to check the book out. I remember that some of this information was presented in the movie "Religulous" and have heard a few friends talk about it. From what I've heard, most of the stories written in the bible and similar books were around years before they were published.

Zeitgeist is covering quite a few of these issues, too. There is a great deal of evidence that Christianity has pagan roots.
