According to the Minnesota Independent, the Final Wishes Act that would rectify discrimination in Minnesota statutes and allow domestic partners to make end-of-life decisions for each other has been opposed by the Minnesota Family Council. The Family Council claims that the measure discriminates against married couples.
The legislation would help allow persons in domestic partnerships, which includes unmarried heterosexual partners and same sex partners, to make important decisions currently denied them, such as making a final determination as what happens to the body of a deceased partner.
The Family Council is worried that recognition of domestic partnerships will lead to same sex marriage.
