An American missionary couple dubbed "Christian warriors" by police were attacked by gunmen in Mexico when they drove up to an illegal roadblock in a dangerous area of the country. Mexican police say that the area has had 40 violent car thefts in the last two months.
Sam and Nancy Davis are from Texas but spent most of their missionary time in Mexico. 59-year-old Nancy was hit when a bullet smashed through the back window of their truck. She died in a Texas hospital 90 minutes after she was shot in the head.
For 40 years, Nancy reached out to the Mexican people, often with humanitarian work because she was a registered nurse.
The Davis' heavy-duty 2008 Chevy pickup truck is worth about $50,000 and a model sought after by Mexican criminals. It is believed that the gunmen targeted them for their vehicle.
