Reporting on a USA Today article, CNN reports on the decline in religious affiliation in the United States.
Only two states reported a rise in religious affiliations:
Louisiana – 8% increase
Rhode Island – 2% increase
In virtually every state, there was an increase in people saying that they had no religious affiliation, with the highest increase in Vermont (21%).
Experts say that people are "making up their own stories" on who they are and that for many, religion has simply become a "fashion statement" and not a deep personal commitment.
