The New York Times reports that a man filing a corporate name designation in Pennsylvania was denied his application based on archaic blasphemy laws.
The name, "I Choose Hell Productions, LLC," was deemed "blasphemous" by the state, even though other corporate names, such as Satanic Butt Slayers, have been approved.
The article states that Massachusetts, Michigan, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wyoming also have blasphemy laws in their statutes and that in Oklahoma, a person found guilty of blasphemy faces a $500 fine and possibly a year in jail. These blasphemy laws are based on Christian principles and in several of the state statutes explicitly outlaw verbal attacks on God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost and "Scripture."
