Tim Minchin singing White Wine in the Sun
Freaked out by churches but enjoy Christmas traditions anyway? Tim Minchin's White Wine in the Sun is a sentimental song about the holiday that many non-believers can relate to — and that many of the faithful find offensive.
The song was included in a Christmas music CD that is being sold for charity and benefiting the Salvation Army in Australia. The Spirit of Christmas CD, which includes songs by Australian stars including Christine Anu, Gabriella Cilmi and The Veronicas, is in its 17th year and has raised more than $6.3 million for charity.
The Herald Sun reports that faith and family groups are angry that White Wine was included in the CD because with lyrics such as "I'm not expecting a visit from Jesus," the CD is disrespectful and a sick joke.
