Tibet | A Year After the Riots

China is clamping down on Tibetan areas one year after the deadly riots that killed 19 persons, but says it will consider meeting the Dalai Lama's envoys.

Last year, on March 14, 2008, days of tension escalated into deadly riots and triggered protests against Chinese rule within Tibet and across the world. One year on, China fears renewed unrest but says it will consider meeting with representatives for Tibet's exiled leader, the Dalai Lama. Chinese officials have met with the monk's envoys before but little of substance has been achieved.
