Pope Complains About 'Aggressive' Secularism in Spain, Denounces Gay Rights

Sagrada FamiliaThe Pope visited Spain to consecrate Sagrada Familia but took the opportunity to denounce what he called "aggressive" secularism in Spain.  He says that he was in Spain to protect and revive Catholicism in the country, which has a secular government.   About three-quarters of Spain's population says it is Catholic, but the Pope claimed that it is the battleground between faith and secularism due to abortion and gay rights.

While thousands attended the mass at Sagrada Familia and thousands more gathered on the streets, thousands of others demonstrated in the streets to protest the Vatican's views on the rights of women, contraception and gay rights.

The Vatican vs. Gay Marriage.

Pope Benedict criticized gay marriage during the Barcelona Mass. Both abortion and gay marriage are legal in Spain. Gay protesters arrived in Barcelona to demonstrate against the Pope's presence with a kiss. Angry Catholic youth showed up to protest the gay demonstrators.
