41% of Americans believe that Jesus Christ is returning within the next 40 years. Some claim the rapture will take place sooner than later … and believe that they have Biblical evidence of the exact date.
Back on January 1 of this year, we reported that Harold Camping of Family Radio proclaimed that May 21, 2011, marks Judgment Day (visit the link to read Camping's brochure and mathematical calculations). In fact, we've even had a believer post a warning here on God Discussion.
Camping had previously speculated that the end of the world was imminent over a decade ago. He had previously predicted September 6, 1994, as rapture day and has since claimed it was a mathematical error. Someone defended this at God Discussion, saying:
The prediction for 1994 had a ? included in with it; it was just to present info. just in case…if you had info. that could have been true, and you did not tell anyone and it did come true, wouldn't you have been mad?
This time, by now, evidence is rock solid from the Bible; due to unsealed info. released at the end of time. Other people have checked out all the info and it is very very solid. It is not easy to understand the Bible, but if you take the time to read "We are almost there" from family radio or any of the pamphlets from ebiblefellowship.com, you'll see this date of May 21, 2011 is VERY CERTAIN. It is the last chance for salvation also.
Those who believe in this prediction are committed to their beliefs. For example, last week we reported that an unemployed woman in Colorado Springs was spending her savings on advertising May 21 doomsday warnings at bus stops.
The Colorado woman is not the only one who is spending her money on warnings.

This web site serves as an introduction and portal to four faithful ministries which are teaching that WE CAN KNOW from the Bible alone that the date of the rapture of believers will take place on May 21, 2011 and that God will destroy this world on October 21, 2011. Please take your time and browse through the teachings of Harold Camping, President of Family Radio. Visit EBible Fellowship, Bible Ministries International, and The-Latter-Rain to read and listen to many faithful teachers give scriptural insight on the doctrines that God is teaching His people. Learn about the Biblical Timeline of History, the correct method of Bible interpretation, the End of the Church Age and God's command to believers that they must depart out of the churches. Study the proofs that God has so graciously given in His Word showing us that these dates are 100% accurate and beyond dispute. Above all, please READ THE BIBLE and prayerfully ask God to open your spiritual eyes to these truths. May it please Him to have mercy on each of our souls.
Comments from the faithful can be found all over the Internet. Here's an example of some of the posts at a 2012 survival website:
May 21,2011 is coming of the LORD JESUS and there will be Fire and Brimstone coming from heaven and he will destroy this earth and the people that are left behind will be TOREMENTED for 5 Months (REV:9). On 10/21/2011 will be the END of the WORLD and this earth will turn into a Lake of Fire and the whole entire Universe will be destroy. Are you ready to meet “The Almighty God.” Let us repent and ask God for Mercy.

Remember, God is in control of this universe and all living things on this planet. We are running out of time. The Bible predict, that on May 21,2011 is the end of the world. There will be Fire and Brimstone coming out from heaven unto to earth and the world will turn into a lake of fire up to 10/21/2011. On that day, the world shall come to its end and the whole entire universe will be burned up forevermore.

How many people really believe in Camping's end times prediction? It's hard to tell. But it seems that those who buy into this prediction really believe it's the truth.
In The Journal of Psychohistory's Spring 2010 issue, Charles B. Strozier and Katherine Boyd analyzed the psychology behind doomsday belief and its tendency for violence in Part 1 of The Psychology of Apocalypticism. They observed:
Richard Landes argues that millennialists experience "apocalyptic time" when they expect the end to occur, but he believes they are able to reenter "normal" time following disappointment. Landes says that prior to "apocalyptic time" believers see signs of the end everywhere and "such arousal, precisely because it believes that the future will be radically discontinuous with the present, liberates believers from any earthly inhibitions… no fear of future consequences (except from a judging deity) restrains the conscience of apocalyptic actors."
Let's hope that Langes is at least partially correct … that after after the supposed rapture does not take place as predicted by Camping, his followers will be able to re-enter 'normal' time after their disappointment.
