There is a level of viciousness in the comments tossed about in the Internet these days that is deeply defensive of religious ideology. It's based on knee jerk emotional responses to perceived challenges rather than intellectualism or common decency. This behavior bears little resemblance to the morals that the church claims to exclusively own.

The Dover case stirred similar emotions. Here's a snippet from the documentary, Judgment day: Intelligent design on trial, showing Christians making death threats to a judge and others who don't share their opinions.
It is unclear what this behavior is supposed to be accomplishing, other than promoting the idea that creationists are intolerant.
