Religious News Verses: Gays, Theocracy and Satan

The Minnesota Independent reports that the Minnesota Family Council and a number of Republican legislators do not want gays and lesbians to have any joint property rights whatsoever:

On Monday, the Minnesota Family Council and several GOP lawmakers held a press conference announcing their intent to push for a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, civil unions and domestic partnerships in Minnesota. [emphasis added]

Amanda Marcotte makes a point at RH Reality Check:  Banning abortion is the first step toward theocracy.  The arguments about when a fetus becomes a person are deeply emotional and individualistic, often with religious undertones.  Marcotte points out that "avoiding the topic of religion in the reproductive rights debate has allowed anti-choicers to position themselves in a more sympathetic light than they deserve with the larger public."  This sympathetic light has led to acceptance of extremist religious activities, such as those practiced by Repent Amarillo.

Wondering why so many sex scandals are coming out of the Catholic church?  Or why a crazy woman would leap onto the Pope during his Christmas eve procession?  It turns out that Satan is lurking in the Vatican.  Father Gabriele Amorth, the church's chief exorcist who has performed approximately70,000 exorcisms, said people who are possessed by Satan vomit shards of glass and pieces of iron when exorcised, and sometimes have to be held down by a half dozen people while the ceremony is performed.Elsewhere on the Net…
