Creationism, denial of gay equality and other conservative Christian values aren't just for Americans — they're getting promoted worldwide.
Biblical creationist Ken Ham's international outreach of Answers In Genesis has a hundred or so volunteers passing out fliers and preaching to sports fans attending the Olympics. Answers Worldwide's 2010 Olympic Outreach views the event as an opportunity to convert people to Jesus. It states in its press release,
"The Olympics provide a wonderful opportunity to fulfill the Scripture's mission challenge to take the gospel to the whole world," said Dr. David Crandall, International Director of Answers WorldWide. He will be leading the team of volunteers comprised of friends of AiG from more than 15 U.S. states and three other countries.
"We are praying now that God will prepare the hearts of the sports fans that we will meet," Dr. Crandall said. Ken Ham added: "This ministry will impact the lives of thousands of individuals as they come in contact with our AiG Olympic outreach team."
The stars of America's anti-gay marriage crusade have set their sights on Mexico City. U.S. signers to the World Congress of Families Leadership Petition To Save Marriage In Mexico City, which challenges Mexico City's recent law allowing same sex marriage include Gary Bauer (American Values), Allan Carlson (World Congress of Families), Tom DeLay (former Majority Leader, U.S. House of Representatives), Joseph Meaney (Human Life International), Tony Perkins (Family Research Council), Michele Velasco (Priests for Life), Don Wildmon (American Family Association), Wendy Wright (Concerned Women for America), Maggie Gallagher (National Organization for Marriage), Dr. Paige Patterson (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary),Yuri Mantilla (Focus on the Family) and Dr. Jerry Newcombe (Coral Ridge Ministries). The arguments made by the signers are the same that are being tried in the federal Perry v. Schwarzenegger case in California, which were refuted by experts in the field.
American United's Sandhya Bathija explores the problems with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs' 32-member task force rationale in asking that the U.S. government to make religion "integral" to American foreign policy.
