Did you know that St. Valentine's Day was created by a Catholic pope?
The celebration was created around 400 AD to honor a Catholic saint. The real St. Valentine may have been a Christian martyr, a Roman priest who was jailed for performing weddings when it was illegal to wed, or others.
Many Catholics honor their patron saint on St. Valentine's day.
More than 500 couples a year get married at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome as part of their Valentine's Day celebration. They must have a letter signed by their bishop and must provide their baptism paperwork.
