Vermont's Roman Catholic Diocese is planning to sell its Burlington headquarters and a Lake Champlain children's camp to help pay monetary settlements with victims of priest sexual abuse. These are some of the Diocese's most important and lucrative assets.
The Diocese reached an out-of-court settlement with a man who claimed to have been abused by Catholic priests. There are 25 pending cases, which the court has urged be mediated or tried jointly.
The Catholic Church wants to put the issue behind it.
