New Abortion Law in Spain Departs from Catholic Sentiment


In a country where the population is primarily Catholic and abortion has historically been considered a crime, a bill passed by Spain's legislature has upset family groups.

The new abortion law allows girls from the age of 16 to have the abortion procedure without parental consent. Fetuses that are up to 22 weeks old can be aborted.

Family groups say the new law defies public opinion.
