Species come and go, with an average lifespan of 4 million years. Humans, now at 7 million years, are multiplying at a rate never seen before in the planet's history.
Paleontoligists have observed that climate change threatens wildlife. At the Paris Museum of Natural History, one of the world's biggest, researchers have amassed countless animal specimens — from dinosaurs skeletons to stuffed tigers — giving the museum's keepers an original long-term perspective on evolution and endangered species.
Like species, climate changes have also come and gone, but never before has the planet had such a quickly growing human population in the process. While scientists do not think that humans will soon become extinct, they think that other species will become extinct at an alarming rate.
