Eric Prince, founder of Blackwater, is an evangelical Christian who had close ties to George Bush. Few know much about him.
He calls himself a Libertarian and practicing Catholic. Yet, he has pushed strong right wing ideologies and candidates. He's a Christian supremacist who has built Mosques in overseas bases. He is hard to "pigeonhole," according to Mike Papantonio.
The private mercenary firm Blackwater became a household name back in 2004 when the news broke that Blackwater soldiers were murdering innocent men, women, and children in Iraq. Blackwater is not unique; there are similar firms in the protection industry.
Although a few stories made mention of Blackwater founder Erik Prince, few journalists rolled up their sleeves to uncover the truth about this powerful man. But now, after 5 years of shrouding himself in mystery, Erik Prince decided to grant an interview to Vanity Fair, where reporter Adam Ciralsky uncovered some startling facts about the man in charge of thousands of mercenary troops.
He spoke with Mike Papantonio recently to talk about his discoveries.
In August 2009, two ex-employees claimed in sworn statements that Blackwater's owner, Erik Prince, murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. One also claimed that Prince viewed himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe. We speak with investigative journalist and bestselling author Jeremy Scahill, who broke the story for The Nation magazine. He had close ties with evangelical leaders in the United States.
