The Bible Slam: Numbers Chapter 08

More complicated rules are given, including the design and lighting of candlesticks at the altar and animal sacrifices.  Purification ceremonies are given for the firstborn of the Levites, who Yahweh says belong to him, in the tradition of taking (and killing) the firstborn of Egypt.  The firstborn of the livestock are also God's.

The Levites had to serve the tabernacle from the age of 25 to 50.

Discussion Points.

As noted over at the Skeptics Bible, God's favorite people are the Israelites, and his extra-favorite are the Levites.  According to the instructions in Numbers 8, the purification included shaving everything.
